Lung Cancer related to Mesothelioma (pleural mesothelioma)

Lung cancer is a deadly disease that has been known to take more lives than breast cancer every year. Lung cancer is not only caused as a result of smoking. Asbestos is the main cause for certain types of cancers with in the lungs.

Mesothelioma, is a rare type of lung cancer that develops due to exposure to asbestos.  It is the type of cancer which affects the protective lining of the lungs and internal chest walls where as lung cancer occurs inside the lungs. Mesothelioma is also known as Pleural Mesothelioma.
This disease is developed through exposure to asbestos inhaled through dust and fibre; it may also be present in water supply and food. Study shows that Mesothelioma can also be caused by washing clothes of a person exposed to asbestos. Although, it is not caused by smoking but smoking increases the risk of other asbestos cancers. Symptoms of Mesothelioma generally appear after several years of exposure to asbestos, in some cases it has showed after fifteen years and in other cases it has taken up to 35 years.

Asbestos

Asbestos is the cause of many ailments and diseases, including the type of cancer disease called Mesothelioma. Its name comes from the Ancient Greece and it means “inextinguishable”, because of its astonishing fireproof qualities; they were aware of the damaging effects that it had upon workers as well.
Asbestos has been widely used in a variety of things for many years. Its modern use is for insulation, and it has been used in structures and items from walls and ceilings to hairdryers and toasters. The industrial revolution made this mineral become popular, as a safe (for fireproof) and operative form of insulation. Although the risks had been known several hundred years earlier, they weren’t taken into account when its popularity increased; at least, not until the 1900s, when professionals started to notice that every asbestos worker presented that disease and their death was due to the exposure.
After an English doctor made the first diagnosis of asbestosis somewhere in the 1920s, there were stepped up laws to offer better protection against asbestos in almost every country, but they weren’t all effective; asbestos was still widely used by the asbestos companies and manufacturers, at least until the mid-1970s.Nowadays, many new cases are diagnosed every year, their number increasing very quickly. As a consequence, many law firms have trained lawyers to deal especially with this type of cases. The mineral is still being used around the world, even if the laws seem to be far more severe.

Mesothelioma Radiation Therapy

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly cancer that appears on the protective lining of the organs. It is caused due to exposure to asbestos. There are three types of mesothelioma cancers;
- Pleural mesothelioma: is a cancer affecting the lining of the lungs.
- Peritoneal mesothelioma: is a cancer affecting the lining of the abdomen organs.
- Pericardial mesothelioma: is a cancer affecting the lining of the heart.

Mesothelioma Symptoms

The symptoms of mesothelioma take many years to manifest and that’s why this disease is very hard to be diagnosed and cured. Even if the early symptoms of mesothelioma become evident, they’re so non-specific and generalized that diagnose could be incorrect, even if an experienced doctor makes that analysis. Its symptoms could frequently be confused with pneumonia in its early stages.

What is Mesothelioma ?

The cancerous disease which affects the mesothelial cells of the outer lining which protects organs such as the heart, stomach and lungs and which is called mesothelium is known as Mesothelioma.
The only cause of this disease is the unprotected and regular contact with asbestos. This disease is hard to diagnose because the symptoms only make their appearance after several years and its treatment is still being studied; so far, the currently used treatments as too poor for this type of cancer.
Those who have entered in contact with asbestos over the past 30 to 50 years are at risk; in other words, men between the ages of 60 and 70 are those who might have the disease, because they’re the ones who worked with this material, when there was no protection; that way, the workers were repeatedly endangered by the asbestos’s fibres and dust, which affected the mesothelium cells. Many of those workers discovered that they are carriers of this type of cancer at 30 to 50 years later, because of the fact that the disease needs decades to fully develop and manifest. These men are now lodging million dollar lawsuits against the companies that actually are aware of the situation.
